Nobody ever says:
- homophobia will go away if we ignore it.
- terrorists will go away if we ignore them.
- homelessness will end if we stop talking about it.
- infant mortality will end if we stop acknowledging it.
- AIDS will go away if we stop focusing on AIDS so much.
Everybody knows that those notions are ridiculous. Why then do people insist on thinking that racism, which is the tragedy above all tragedies, will disappear if we stop talking about it?

The 760 million tons of grain used to feed animals to produce meat could feed 11 billion people and could end global food shortage 14 times over.
Yeah, because that food is magically going to just be handed out to every starving person in the world without a hiccup right?

When asked why he didn’t intervene the photographer (Stoddart) said:
‘Photographers in this situation are faced with this kind of dilemma all the time,’ he says. ‘The picture shows something that happens every second in Africa and other Third World countries. My job is to bring back telling images. This one moved people and still does, so I did what I was there to do. I’m very proud of my work from Sudan.’
I never know wether or not I should blame the photographers of these situations. My immediate reaction to stories like these is thinking the photographer should be punished, maybe even kill himself like Kevin Carter; the guy who took the photo of a kid being stalked by a vulture…but then again what is one person supposed to do in this situation. I still dont think his usage of “proud” was the right word though.

Jackson State Killings, May 14-15, 1970.
JACKSON, Miss. (LNS) — Jackson police chief Pierce addressed the students. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have something to tell you.” He went no further. The police turned and began firing into the crowd of 200 students who had gathered on the campus of Jackson State College, Mississippi’s largest black university. A tape made by local TV recorded more than 30 seconds of uninterrupted gunfire as hundreds of rounds of ammunition were fired through the crowd into an adjacent women’s dormitory, suddenly spotlighted by huge police searchlights.
When the cease-fire order was given, two lay dead and dozens of wounded people lay scattered in front of the dorm and in the lounge inside.
Two dead. Phillip Gibbs, a Jackson State student who was walking with his sister to the dorm, was shot as he was leaving the building with his hands over his head. He died on the way to the hospital. James Green, a senior at nearby Hills High School, returning home from his nighttime job, was killed instantly as he stood across the streets from the dorm.

This is the remarkable moment when a tiger bowed its head and placed a paw up to the hand of a small girl.
Photographer Dyrk Daniels noticed the 370lb Golden Bengal Tiger had taken an interest in the child, who was leaning against his glass enclosure.
As the tiger, called Taj, headed over to her, Mr Daniels got his camera ready, expecting him to snarl and bang against the glass.
‘I noticed that Taj had taken an interest in the girl and was heading towards her.
‘I thought for certain that the little girl would need therapy after the encounter and fear cats for the rest of her life.
‘I could not believe my eyes when Taj approached the girl, bowed his head and then placed his huge right paw exactly in front of where the little girl’s left hand was.
‘It was incredible to watch. Taj let down his right paw, rubbed his cheek against the glass where the little girl’s face was and moved off.’
Far from being scared, the little girl was so excited that she started clapping as she walked back afterwards towards her mother.
‘I have never seen such tenderness from such a large predator,’ Mr Daniels said.
